Fall Colors

This pastel painting was done in Mendon Ponds Park on an unusually warm day in late October.  The sunshine through the atmosphere made the distant hills a beautiful blue color and gave a warm cast to everything.  It softened the edges on the hazy shadows that crossed the path where I stood.  I occasionally had horse-back riders pass by me, as this is one of several riding trails through the park.

Sunlit Path in Fishers NY

I went to a little park in Fishers this morning. This backlit path was the first place I spotted, but whenever I'm out, I always think there must be something better to paint a little further down the road, so I keep looking. I could sure save myself a lot of time if I just went with the first reaction to a place I get, instead of always looking for something better.
